Ohana Growth Partners (OGP), a Planet Fitness franchise operator based in Maryland with more than 90 locations in eight states, needed a scalable way to improve energy performance across both its existing locations and new builds. One of the largest founder-led Planet Fitness franchisees, OGP faced rising energy costs, aging equipment, and inconsistent energy performance. At the same time, they wanted to preserve capital to invest in elevating member experience and expanding their portfolio.
To balance these competing needs, OGP needed more than an energy management vendor. It required a partner that could take on the upfront capital requirements, sustain performance across a growing portfolio, and deliver measurable energy savings.
Key challenges included:

Phase 1 — Launching the Budderfly partnership with 37 existing locations
OGP formally launched its partnership with Budderfly with 37 Planet Fitness clubs in March 2025. These locations received upgrades—including LED lighting, HVAC enhancements, and other efficiency improvements—creating immediate operational impact without requiring capital investment.
Phase 2 — Scaling up and expanding with new builds
Three months later, OGP added three new‑build Planet Fitness locations to the program. Budderfly provided high‑efficiency equipment. Budderfly fully covered the cost of the equipment, making the process simple, predictable, and budget‑friendly for OGP.
Phase 3 — Continuous optimization across OGP’s portfolio
With nearly half of its portfolio enrolled, OGP and Budderfly meet biweekly to review performance data, identify new opportunities, and coordinate upcoming equipment upgrades—including HVAC replacements across multiple sites. Based on mutual success, the scope of the partnership has grown from managing upgrades to collaborative, continuous portfolio optimization delivering operational consistency as OGP scales.
