KFC wanted to cut energy use and costs without disrupting the smooth operations and high performance of their equipment and staff. In August 2022, Budderfly installed all new energy efficient equipment that yielded success at the two pilot locations in Virginia and has now been replicated at 41 other KFC locations.
Budderfly conducted a thorough on-site study and analysis of the pilot KFC locations where our experts learned about the franchise owner’s energy efficiency needs and opportunities.
Budderfly then invested $46,637.12 in equipment upgrades at these locations, at absolutely no cost to the franchisees, including:
Specially designed interior and exterior LED lighting systems
Optimized energy monitoring and management systems in refrigeration and freezer units, with alerts and alarms for any irregularities
Multilevel reprogramming and upgrades to HVAC and cooking ventilation systems
Integrated energy demand response timing and controls that distribute energy usage across the lowest-cost times of day
The KFC pilot locations saw unprecedented energy savings and a full range of operational and environmental benefits, exceeding all target metrics. The two locations saved over 206,000 kWh and over $8,891 during the pilot period. Budderfly supplied 100% of the capital and equipment, and we performed all the installations and upgrades. The KFC pilot locations increased efficiency, received comprehensive 24/7/365 monitoring, improved health and safety, reduced food waste, and modernized environments—at no cost.
The pilot was such a success that we’ve now replicated it at 41 KFC locations across the U.S.
